The box gutter had to go for a number of reasons:

• It runs the risk of a stormwater overflow & water getting back into the house
• By adding the 300mm, the effective eave line would extend out to over 3/4 of a meter. 
• This would then make the outdoor space too low in head height

We lifted the patio cover so it sat above the exisitng house roof line. 

With the new ‘stacker door’ being installed on the back wall, the idea was to still get the bush/tree view from inside, rather than see a support beam right in your eye line. 

These gave Emily & Andy more head height, natural light  & air flow to their outdoor room
